Case Study 05 - Yellowhead County

Business Challenge
To design and integrate a Council Chambers that could be used to handle daily business and showcase Yellowhead County to the world. Due to the layout of the room it was necessary to overcome issues of presentation sightlines and acoustic challenges, outcomes of the hard surfaces and the shape of the Chambers. The county expressed a need to be able to annotate over any computer program (including digital images) that might be used during presentations. In addition, Yellowhead County also required an electronic voting system that could be used to hold a vote and save the results for retrieval at a later date that also integrated speech re-enforcement from the council members.

Sharp's Audio Visual Solution
To make this a high profile room that would showcase Yellowhead County, Sharp's Audio Visual used key products from SMART Technologies, NEC, Beyer Dynamic, Da-lite and Crestron. The Two wall mounted electric Da-lite 150” diagonal screens and suspended NEC projectors provided a clean, aesthetic between the technology and the open architecture to the room. Using two large screens we were able to overcome all sightline issues in the room architecture.

Sharp's Audio Visual Solution (Continued)
Eight Beyer Dynamic delegate voting system stations and one Reeve station were installed in front of the council members in the chambers that supported voice amplification. This allowed the Reeve to call for a vote and display the results on the wireless Crestron control panel. The SMART Sympodium pen display was added largely to accommodate both presenters from the gallery and the council's need for annotation. Due to the portable nature of this SMART product, it can be connected at any computer input. Ten NEC 15" LCD screens were provided for each council member and administrator so they can see the presentation and still face the gallery.

Results
This system is in use almost every day for either County business or private events. This room has helped to spawn 4 more SMART integration rooms inside this building and through word of mouth was influential in the decision for another municipality to design and implement a similar system.
