Fresh Look Fridays -- Jigsaw Planet - (13-08-2010)

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone!

Today's Fresh Look Fridays featured site is a fun, interactive and very easy-to-use website.  The Jigsaw Puzzle Creator is exactly that -- a website that creates a jigsaw puzzle from any image that you upload.  That means that it instantly has its place in any classroom, at all grade levels and subject areas.

What a fun little review activity! Especially when used on a SMART Board or other IWB with a small group.  Upload diagrams and maps for review of visual components of the curriculum or create puzzles out of key images (such as historical figures) and have students try to guess who they're solving a puzzle of.

For the little ones, there's a 'ghost' feature that gives a transparent picture of the finished puzzle.  When in ghost mode, the percentage of the puzzle that is completed is also shown.

What a great, easy-to-create and easy-to-use little website!

On a personal note, I'm going to see my favourite band tonight: EMERSON DRIVE!!! I've seen them approximately a bazillion times in all sorts of large and small venues, but I've had a 13 month lapse in attending a concert, so now I'm super excited.  And no, I'm not a 16 year old girl and yes, my husband is aware of my obsession. :)

So to celebrate this wonderful day, I thought I'd do a little band promo by including their most recent music video "That Kind of Beautiful".  Enjoy!

Bonus points for fellow EDrive fanatics who can name all the people in the video that are related to the band!

Double bonus points if you can name the band member who is having a birthday today :)

*Update*: For all of my American friends, apparently, you can't see the above video.  Sooo....here's a link where you can see other awesome Emerson Drive videos (sorry, That Kind of Beautiful hasn't been released as a single in the States just yet!)  http://www.cmt.com/videos/emerson-drive/320312/belongs-to-you.jhtml

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
