Business Challenge
When you're one of the largest suburban malls in a city of more than one million, moving shoppers in the right direction is paramount to staying on top of the retail game. Southcentre Mall faced this challenge with its $104 million renovation in 2007. Mall management required a wayfinding and promotional signage solution that was comprehensive, integrated and easy to control. Not only must they help shoppers find the merchants and services they're looking for, they also need to provide an alluring and effective way to communicate sales, special offers and seasonal promotions.
Sharp's Audio Video's Solution
Strategically position screens throughout the mall at high traffic locations, including customer service desks. These include 46” LCDs, touch screens and a large 3 x 3 video wall feature in the centre court. Southcentre also defined a need to upgrade its content management software and looked to Sharp's for advice. Omnivex software provided the flexibility and scalability staff needed to make quick changes or extensive revisions to content. The digital signage is managed from a central location using Omnivex's state-of-the-art software. With over 200 different stores and services, facility navigation has always been a priority for Southcentre. The new wayfinding screens help customers navigate the mall's vast footprint and dynamic displays stream service and program content, as well as advertisements from the retailers.
Results
Shoppers learn about promotions taking place in the mall while retailers have the benefit of invaluable brand exposure to a captive audience. The renovation and addition of digital signage to the mall reinforces Southcentre as one of Calgary's best places to shop. Future plans for the digital signage system include expansion into other areas of the shopping centre and exploration of further opportunities to promote retailers and other groups using mall space.
