Funny Answers to an Age-Old Question - (22-06-2010)

I promise that I really do have intelligent interesting unique commentary on some issues in education these days, but I just haven't had the time to properly flush out my ideas so that they become worthy of a blog post.

You'd think I was a teacher or something.

I mean really, this June is about as relaxing as they come -- who knew how much time I'd have with NO report cards to write, NO IPPs to fill out, ZERO classroom clutter to sift through, NO field trips, NO assemblies and ZERO government PATs/diplomas to think about?

I still can't get used to it.  And I'm pretty sure I'm having 'sympathy June-brain' (akin to sympathy pains) for my colleagues still on the front lines in the trenches.  Hence the lack of education-related analysis these days.

While I sort through my hazy ideas that haven't quite formed into a blog post (stay tuned for an upcoming #edchat review), I thought I'd fall back on my Social Studies roots and present some history twists on that age old question: "Why did the chicken cross the road"?

They're smart, they're funny, I made them colourful and they don't take too much thinking to understand (for the most part!).  Just what the doctor ordered for teachers in June!

Enjoy :)

GEORGE W. BUSH
We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our  side of the road or not. The chicken is either with us or it is against us. There is no middle ground here.

AL GORE
I invented the chicken. I invented the road. Therefore, the chicken crossing the road represented the  application of these two different functions of government in a new, reinvented way designed to bring greater services to the American people.

DR. SEUSS
Did the chicken cross the road?
Did he cross it with a toad?
Yes, The chicken crossed the road,
But why it crossed, I've not been told!

ERNEST HEMINGWAY
To die. In the rain. Alone.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.

GRANDPA
In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.

RONALD REAGAN
What chicken?

BILL GATES
I have just released eChicken 2011, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook - and Internet Explorer is an inextricable part of eChicken.

BILL CLINTON
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What do you mean by chicken? Could you define chicken, please?

THE BIBLE
And God came down from the heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing.

JOHN LENNON
Imagine all the chickens crossing roads in peace.

ARISTOTLE
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

KARL MARX
It was a historical inevitability.

JACK NICHOLSON 'Cause it (censored) wanted to. That's the (censored) reason

MACHIAVELLI  So that its subjects will view it with admiration, as a chicken which has the daring and courage to boldly cross the road, but also with fear, for who among them has the strength to contend with such a paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the princely chicken's dominion maintained.

Glad to have made everyone have a chuckle this time of craziness! And Len - I LOVE the Gene Roddenberry one!! I used to have a printed out copy of like, a million of these answers that I put at the end of my Social 30 exam every year, but of COURSE I couldn't find it when I wanted it for this post.

lol, thank you for that laugh this morning! I am still waiting for the chaos to calm down. I think I have been busier with school related work the past few weeks than I ever was during the year (and if you know me, that is saying something!) Where is this break that you speak of? :)

Thanks for the laugh amidst the chaos that is June!!! :-) Appreciate the light post as I run around like a chicken with its head off and no idea of how to cross the road! ;-)

This post made me laugh out loud!
Here's another. Gene Roddenberry 'The chicken crossed the road to boldly go where no chicken had gone before.'

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
