Fresh Look Fridays -- MisterTeacher - (24-09-2010)

Happy Friday!  As I sit here writing this post, I've just returned home from one of the best professional development sessions I've ever attended -- the Digital Citizenship Symposium in Calgary (#DCSCal), which was hosted by the fantabulous duo of Alec Couros and Dean Shareski.  My head is spinning with the amazing people I met, the great ideas that were shared and the thought-provoking discussions that were had by all.

There's so much to tell, so much to share and so much to write about for future blog posts.  But I'm going to have to digest for awhile before I spew my ideas onto the virtual pages of this website.

Yup! You're going to have wait for the future blog posts of brilliance to fall upon you. ;)  And now, onto today's blog post...

Today's Fresh Look Fridays post features one of my all-time favourite websites for use on a SMART Board -- Mister Teacher.  Long story short, this site is full of fantastic mini-movies for exploration and visual reinforcement of key concepts in Math and Science.  These mini movies (created by a member of my Twitter PLN - @jtubbs), are written as .swf files meaning...wait for it...that they can be downloaded and EMBEDDED within SMART Notebook! Woot woot!

Explore some of my favourites such as:

And:

SMART Notebook tip:  After downloading the files that you want to keep, go into Notebook and select "Insert" then "Flash File" to put these interactive mini-movies directly onto your Notebook page. Presto! No loading, no buffering, no waiting for the internet to load and no worrying about broken links. What a great website full of supplementary activities for students to explore as well as enhancing the teacher led portion of your lessons.

Have a great weekend!

Vanessa :)

This is great, but do you know how to embed PhET jar files without creating a link to the website?

Hi Vanessa,

I'm putting together a testimonials page for my site. Do you mind if I use your words?

Thanks again...Jamie

Jealous that you got to go to symposium, sounds like it was great! I'm going to have to settle for the gems you offer here.

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
