Fresh Look Fridays - Counting Games - (16-07-2010)

Confucius once said "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated."

I couldn't agree more -- especially when it comes to using technology in the classroom. Sometimes, it's the simplest websites that can be the most entertaining, engaging and directly applicable to the classroom.

Enter today's Fresh Look Fridays website list.  For those loyal readers of this blog (hi, Mom!), you'll note that it is a rarity that my Fresh Look Fridays post includes more than one website.

Well folks, today's your lucky day.

For all the pre-K to Grade 1 teachers that are members of my PLN, or have simply stumbled upon this blog, today's websites are for you.  They are colourful, simple and all deal with some aspect of that all-important basic skill -- counting.  Like any website, these work well in a 1:1 environment, or as a small group 'center' activity on a SMART Board.  I prefer working with a larger surface, especially because some of these websites don't allow for a full-screen mode.

Counting on a Cloud

- Level 1: the program counts for you

- Level 2: students need to select the correct number

Calgary folks - enjoy the final weekend of Stampede! Everyone else - enjoy this beautiful mid-summer weekend :)

Great finds! I agree sometimes the simplest games and tools get the biggest excitement from the kiddos.

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
