A Tribute - (14-07-2010)

I thought I'd share a little known fact about me with my PLN today.  I. Love. Baseball.

Yup! Apparently, I should have been an American (combined with the fact that my birthday is the Fourth of July, it seems that if I wasn't destined to be the Queen of England, I was destined to live south of the 49th parallel).

For the record, I love ALL sports -- either as a spectating sport or as one that I actually play.  But baseball is one of my absolute faves to watch.  It should come as no surprise then that I married a baseball player, or that we spend 75% of our vacations planning around watching a baseball game, or that we included 2 games of MLB playoffs in our honeymoon travel.

I know.  I should get a wife of the year award, or something.

So when the sad news appeared on Twitter yesterday that George Steinbrenner had passed away,  I immediately felt that I was among those fans grieving in New York. Don't worry, Derek Jeter, I'll give you a shoulder to cry on ;)

The news also sparked a resurgence of another love of mine - Seinfeld.  What a classic sitcom! Oh, how I could go on and on with legendary lines from that show: "Say Vandalay Industries! Say Vandalay Industries!" "And you want to be my latex salesman" "She eats her peas, one at a time" "Dolores!" "You're bald!" "No soup for you!" "I'm out there, Jerry and I'm loving every minute of it!"

But I digress.

For those diehard Seinfeld lovers (@bircherd and @zaltech, just to name 2 Canadian Seinfeld lovers from my PLN), Twitter was set aflutter with reminiscings of George Steinbrenner's character on Seinfeld.

I mean, really, does it get any better? Two classics -- Steinbrenner and Seinfeld -- combined?!? For those who share my love of the 2 aforementioned topics, please enjoy a little tribute to Mr. Steinbrenner (voiced by Larry David), via Seinfeld clips:

The Calzone

Mr. Morgan Doesn't Sign The Card

Ahhh. Great memories.

RIP Mr. Steinbrenner.

Vanessa :)

Emily and Kelly - glad to know you're both on the Seinfeld bandwagon! I find it's one of those shows you either love, or love to hate. I used to get weird looks from my students when I'd bust out what I thought was a classic line such as "Who's gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It's chocolate, it's peppermint -- it's delicious!" Apparently, it's not as prevalent in the everyday language of this younger generation! lol

You can add @ktenkely to your list of Seinfeld lovers. For the record, if we ever get to meet in person, we should be on same team for Seinfeld Scene it. We would kill :)

Great learning more about you, and thanks for the memories. My husband and I love Seinfield and regularly trade phrases back and forth. I have found a lot of uses for "Serenity now!" And everytime I make Jello I get his rendition of the Costanzas "Why'd you put the bananas in the Jello?!" "George likes the bananas!" "Then let him eat them on the side!" complete with voice imitations.

Have a great weekend.:)

Love the post! Really eerie, as I received your tweet, Steinbrenner (on Seinfeld) was just asking George what he was eating, the calzone...

The pita pocket keeps it from dripping - Steinbrenner

I'm going to dig through my VHS tapes from the 80s as, for some reason, I would record Saturday Night Live. Steinbrenner was the host one night and I have to say, he did an excellent job. Once sketch had him as a small business owner who cared a lot about his employees and wouldn't fire them no matter what... his assistant was portraying the real Steinbrenner as the guy who would fire somebody at the drop of a hat... but Stein would try to teach him how to be a more gentle, empathetic employer.

This episode is nowhere to be found online so if I do find it, I'll digitize it and post it somewhere (despite copyright laws!)

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
